Why is it important to study the Millennial Temple?
Many Christians reading through the Book of Ezekiel, when they come to the lengthy conclusion of the book (chapters 40–48), lose interest and either give it a quick scan or decide not to read it. In these chapters, Ezekiel tells of his God-given vision of a future temple, grander than Solomon’s Temple and definitely not the Jews’ Second Temple (post-Captivity/Exile). Ezekiel tells in precise detail the architectural design, dimensions, furnishings, and location of that future temple, and he tells of those who will minister and worship there. “Jewish tradition regards these chapters as Ezekiel’s vision of the Third Temple to be built in the days of the Messiah” (Jewish Study Bible, JPS). Christians who believe in the pre-millennial second coming of Jesus Christ identify this “Third Temple” as the Millennial Temple. It is important to study the Millennial Temple to learn the doctrinal and practical implications of this temple for the coming of Christ’s kingdom in its fullness when He comes to reign on earth.
